Rhett Laeghton Antony, 21, straight
five-foot-nine, 150 lbs
I'm called Rhett, RL, and Laeghton.
With somewhat unruly blonde hair, I'm almost always immediately marked as a bad-boy. And while that is true, I'm sure as hell not a criminal. Nor a pirate. I am proud, and I take offense easily. But behind these hazel eyes, you'd never know it. My square jaw and charming smile can take any girl's heart, and my well-shaped body is the pride of any lover of mine. I'm well-kept and clean, always mostly shaven, and well-tanned. And I consider it a blessing before God.
Rhett is the first to admit how wild and boundless he is-- he's a bad boy. But this is just his outer put-on, his way to get women to fall for him, and his way to charm himself out of hard labor. Inside, he's morally unstable, very weak, and very easily offended. But by the sarcasm that haunts his smooth voice, the contemptuous smile on his lips, and the deep charm in his eye, Rhett shows that he is 'undaunted' and smooth. He can hide anything, yes. But it all has to be let out sometime. And unfortunately, it escapes in the form of rage from Rhett. He's lost many a friend that way, and in the prestigious northern society of his youth, he was almost too mad to be a gentleman. Shame, it is-- but that is how he is.
He pretends to fear nothing, but he fears losing lovers and friends, and dying alone.
His goals are to marry, to be loved for who he is, and to have fun all the while.
From the Antony line in New York,
Son of Gabriel and Tara Antony,
Brother to none.
Rhett's beginnings were anything but humble. He came from a big city, where his father's trade as a politician rubbed off on his contemptuous spirit. But Rhett chose, at a decent age, not to take the path of his father, but rather to become the businessman his charm allowed him to be. He had been raised in a household where he could have what he pleased, and with a smile could win anyone's heart. Rhett learned his manipulative skill young--something he would later spurn and use only as his facade.
But when he was eleven, a crushing blow happened-- his mother was murdered by a jealous criminal who'd known her as a child and wanted to get her back for supposedly breaking a betrothal. The act shook the Antony household, and put business on hold for a good year before Rhett's father recovered, not ever the same man. The incident left its mark especially on the young Rhett, who was the one who'd discovered her just in the back garden. But he soon put on a mask of strength, and carried on.
At fourteen, he sold newspapers. At sixteen, he worked as an apprentice to a revered jeweler, and soon found that his skill in selling would be rewarding. He picked up and moved to Charleston at twenty, and became a boarder. He isn't a landowner, and not technically a southerner, and often visits his hometown. Thus, he is a Yankee around these parts.
But there is also a dark story that pervades his past and causes the facade that he wears, because he does not want to be easy to fool again: He had fallen in love with one Evelyn Hamilton, a descendent of the famed Alexander, and they had taken eachother and made vows to later marry. However, Rhett's father did not approve of the match and when Evelyn approached him about the marriage, Rhett's father lied in rage and told her that Rhett was already married and just playing her heart to get her in bed. Evelyn ran away then, and despite Rhett's pleas, he never got her back. This, coupled with anger at his father and sorrow for his mother, caused Rhett to build a wall and wear a false front.
He spends time with the local girls, and lots of money on them, too. He is not the person that is really below the surface when in public, as he is afraid of his own heart. He sells jewels, like he's learned, and though his lot is rich, he chooses not to buy an estate in Charleston. After all, he'll have to go back North if a war breaks out.
It's Dorian again (: I love you.
